Donor Intent
The Red Cross always honors donor intent. Locally, we went to great lengths to make sure that every dollar was carefully designated as the donor intended. When we were in doubt, we contacted the donors and verified intent.
During the period after September 11, the Red Cross has practiced stringent accounting measures that track donations and assure that financial resources contributed are used appropriately. In fact, in addition to extensive annual auditing, Red Cross immediately implemented additional audit systems to ensure full accountability including hiring of the national accounting firm, KMPG, to review the National Red Cross and doing spot audits of chapters. Every local Red Cross also brought in their local auditors for contribution testing. Your local chapter's audit was found to be professional, complete, and without problems.
