Although widely reported that Dr. Healy, President of the American Red Cross, was forced out by the Red Cross Board of Governors, the decision to leave was Dr. Healy's. Over a period of several weeks, the Board of Governors and Dr. Healy had developed some differences regarding governance, policy, and management style. By no means was there any hint of mishandling of funds as a result of September 11. In fact, the Board of Governors had re-affirmed the establishment and purpose of the Liberty Fund. Dr. Healy was a strong and compassionate leader who served the American Red Cross and the American people with dignity and integrity. Her vision, stewardship, and principled leadership significantly strengthened the American Red Cross.
