American Red Cross Offering H1N1 Educational Presentations for Local Community

“Find out what you need to know about this year’s influenza viruses.”

How much do you know about H1N1? Do you know why the virus threatens to infect up to 40% of our local population and kill 30,000 or more in the U.S.? Do you know why public health officials are strongly recommending younger age groups get vaccinated? Do you know what you can do to avoid getting sick. Do you know the symptoms and what to do if you or your family becomes ill?

To learn the answers to these important questions and more information about this year's flu season, call the American Red Cross today to schedule a free on-site 20-minute preparedness seminar aimed at businesses, agencies, and the general public. Presentations can be scheduled at your convenience by calling 231-720-4250.

These preparedness seminars will offer a comprehensive look at what you, your family, and employees need to know as this serious influenza pandemic occurs. The presentations cover topics including symptoms and facts about the illness, potential consequences of a pandemic, information on vaccinations, when its important to see a physician, and measures to avoid getting sick. With the rapidly growing amount of local flu cases, becoming aware of this important information will allow participants to make informed decisions about how they should react to and prepare for this year’s flu.

According to Tom Whitehead, American Red Cross Emergency Services Chair and one of the seminar’s presenters, “Being informed on the H1N1 virus is one of the most important measures you can take to assure the health of yourself and your family this flu season. It is crucial to get this information now before the flu impacts you, your family, or your place of employment.”
