Save A Life Tour Visits Muskegon
In order to raise awareness and educate people about the ongoing need for blood in this country, the American Red Cross launched one of the largest initiatives in its history called the Save A Life Tour this past summer.
This campaign was a national effort to encourage Americans to help save lives through regular blood donation. Aiming to increase our nation's critically low blood supply, the goal was to collect 3 million blood donations around the country during a six-month time period.
The Red Cross serving Muskegon, Oceana and Newaygo Counties was proud to host one of the 354 tour stops that occurred across the United States. On July 18 the Save A Life Tour convoy was featured in conjunction with the Red Cross' Party in the Park in downtown Muskegon.
Young and old alike came to Hackley Park to hear great music, eat tasty food and learn more about the importance of donating blood. The opening ceremony included several members of our community giving testimonials on why they give their precious blood. Everyone was then invited to take a tour of the Red Cross Mobile Museum. Inside the state-of-art museum, attendees could hear stories from those who had received blood products, learn about the different types of blood and even e-mail their picture to a loved one.
Overall, nearly 400 people toured the Save A Life Tour Mobile Museum. It is the hope of the American Red Cross that all who attended were encouraged to donate their life-saving blood so that others can live!
