Save A Life Tour 2003

Will be coming to Muskegon on Friday, July 18, 2003 in conjunction with Party in the Park hosted by the American Red Cross serving Muskegon, Oceana and Newaygo Counties.

The American Red Cross will launch one of the largest initiatives in its history - The Save A Life Tour 2003. The Save A Life Tour is a grassroots effort that will honor the everyday people who donate blood and will generate enthusiasm about being a blood donor. This Tour is a six-month campaign that will run from May to November 2003, and during which two highly visible convoys will be traveling across the U.S. to help raise awareness and educate the public about the ongoing need for blood.

The goals of the Save A Life Tour 2003 are to:

  • Increase public awareness about the ongoing need for blood by mobilizing communities across the U.S. to join a National effort to meet the country's blood needs.
  • Support Blood Services Regions' collection goals from May to November 2003.
To achieve these goals, the Tour will focus on generating excitement about becoming a blood donor, growing the new donor base, increasing the frequency of existing donors, rebuilding trust in the organization, and educating the public about the need for regular donations.

The Tour will kick off with a National media event in May. One convoy will travel to the 2003 National Convention in Indianapolis. The two convoys will finally converge in Washington, DC for a grand finale in November 2003.

Each convoy will include a lead bus to carry local VIPs and hold teach-ins for adult and youth groups, as well as a mobile museum with interactive displays and kiosks, which educate about the need and use of blood. As they tour each city, the convoys will visit local blood drives, host school and community groups and participate in visibility events. Events will ideally include local Red Cross leadership, local government/ political officials, celebrities (local and national) and select headquarters leadership. The Save A Life events will provide a venue for Blood Services Regions and Chapters to showcase all that the Red Cross has to offer.
